Government, Community And Industry Join To Call For Inquiry Into Planning Laws
The LGMA along with a coalition of all the main organisations with an interest in local planning are calling on Members of Parliament to support an Upper House inquiry into the Environmental Planning and Assessment Amendment Bill 2008 and related bills currently before Parliament. We believe the legislation is fundamentally flawed and there has been insufficient time for a proper assessment of the impacts the changes will have on communities and the environment.

The legislation proposes major changes to the way in which planning and development decisions are made in NSW. It is complex, lacks sufficient detail to enable proper analysis of its impacts, undermines the rights of individuals and communities to participate in planning and development decisions, and will negatively impact our natural and built environment. The Inquiry would enable detailed scrutiny and a proper assessment of the implications of the legislation.

The communique can be viewed here.

LGMA NSW's Submission to Environmental Planning and Assessment Amendment Bill 2008
The LGMA recognises that along with the State Government and the general community – we all share the same goal of wanting to streamline the planning process. The LGMA members are well placed to advise the NSW Government on planning reforms as a portion of local government professionals are planners and regularly face the challenges of the current planning system. Action Plan For Women In Local Government

It is important that women actively engage in all levels of leadership and decision-making, particularly within government. Diversity in government is important as governments whose composition reflects the diversity of the community have an enhanced understanding of the different needs of the community, which in turn leads to enhanced service provision. Please see our 'Bang The Table' page for more information and to join the discussion. Please click here.
