General Manager, Tamworth Regional Council

PAUL'S VISION FOR LGMA NSW

To succeed in achieving the LGMA NSW’s Vision there are a number of clear priorities that we must pursue over the next two years.  Paramount is ensuring our absolute focus and commitment to the current reform process and harnessing the skills and expertise of our members to make a meaningful, progressive and innovative contribution to the debate.  The initiatives identified through Destination 2036, the structural review being undertaken by the Independent Review Panel, and the comprehensive revision of the Local Government Act provide us with an amazing opportunity to strongly influence the shape of Local Government into the future.  The excellent work in recent years to secure a genuine place at the table with the state government must now be consolidated by making sure our voice is heard.

Our strength as an organisation is in our members, and it is critical that our members feel valued as a person, engaged as a professional, and empowered as a local government leader to make a real difference to our industry through their relationship with LGMA NSW.

VICE PRESIDENT
David Tuxford
Director City Services, Liverpool City Council

DAVID'S VISION FOR LGMA NSW

My vision for LGMA NSW is to continue to grow its membership and expand the responsibilities of the Special Interest Groups (SIGs). By growing our membership, LGMA NSW will become more sustainable and relevant and by expanding the responsibilities of the SIGs, will free up valuable LGMA NSW staff time and allow the SIGs to use their knowledge, experience and expertise in line with their professional vocation. I will continue to engage with members to make sure that the conferences and training programs are relevant and structured in a way that will allow them to interact and network with other participants. In relation to Destination 2036, I will work to the best of my ability to ensure that members’ voices are heard and that adequate and appropriate consultation occurs in line with the key actions of the Implementation Steering Committee’s Charter. This will be vital in shaping the future of local government.

DAVID'S VISION FOR LGMA NSW

I would assist LGMA NSW consolidate its position as the peak NSW representative body of local government professionals, and as a genuine and informed contributor to local government reform. To do this, LGMA NSW needs to continue to grow membership (in number and diversity of age and profession), provide valued member services and programmes, have strong member networks whether regionally or professionally based, and provide accessible and effective member support, as the industry reform gains momentum. To achieve this, it requires a robust and sustainable business model that will allow LGMA NSW access to the resources it needs in order to fulfil its purpose – a challenge common to all membership based organisations. I believe my industry knowledge and experience, my extensive involvement and directorships in incorporated associations, corporate entities and membership based organisations can assist LGMA NSW in its role as our industry moves through what will be a significant and challenging period of change.

ALIA'S VISION FOR LGMA NSW

I am committed to the local government sector and value the role that local government plays in delivering stronger communities. I am passionate about the need for local government to attract and retain professionals that have the capacity to step outside the present challenges that occupy local government and be capable of providing answers, solutions and innovative ideas rather than excuses as to why things can’t be done. I will continue to build the professional networks and encourage opportunity for the sector to share ideas and information and engender a more collegial environment. I will work hard to ensure that Destination 2036 as blue print for change is implemented.

GREG'S VISION FOR LGMA NSW

LGMA NSW has been able to achieve a meaningful place at the table with the NSW State Government in recent years. This place needs to be maintained and enhanced by the new Board and the general membership of LGMA NSW, particularly with the current Destination 2036 and Independent Review Panel agenda. We need to contribute to delivering outcomes in a professional manner with a view to enhancing our communities as well as maximising opportunities for our members within an effective and efficient local government Industry.

As a rural based General Manager, I am particularly focussed on achieving outcomes for communities that are not based on the one size fits all approach. I am also committed to ensuring that LGMA NSW serves the professional development needs in rural and regional NSW and maintaining a stable LGMA NSW organisation.

SIMONE'S VISION FOR LGMA NSW

We are faced with the fact that with 2036 and the NSW Independent Local Government Review Panel, local government will not stay the same. As a member organisation, LGMA NSW needs to be ahead of the changes to be able to influence the changes, achieving better outcomes for our communities. We all have to work smarter, more creatively and be able to harness the resources that our communities provide to solve the many long term deep and complex problems that we all see on a daily basis in our areas, and we have to work together as a sector. With this in mind, I will be working towards LGMA NSW:

  • Being able to influence the future of local government

  • Our members being equipped to work with/deal with change

  • Working together as a sector

  • Relevant and vibrant events

  • New products and programs to benefit members.

NICK'S VISION FOR LGMA NSW

Nick aims to ensure that the LGMA NSW provides opportunities for members to receive support for career development and in protecting their employment in local government.

Local government is facing major structural changes and the LGMA NSW needs to promote the professionalism of council staff and develop programs to ensure that local government becomes a real employment choice for graduates and trainees. It is also important that LGMA NSW recognises the needs of all members including those in regional areas and develops policies to bring all local government staff into the association.
