About LGMA NSW Membership

LGMA NSW membership is governed by four main documents. They are the:
• LGMA NSW Constitution
• LGMA NSW Membership Policy
• LGMA NSW Code of Conduct
• LGMA NSW Privacy Policy

To be eligible to apply for membership, an individual must be either employed in local government either directly or on an employment contract or an employee of a Regional Organisations of Council (ROC).

Membership Types

As outlined in the LGMA NSW Membership Policy there are eight possible membership types.

Standard Member

An individual who:
• is employed in local government either directly or on an employment contract (for a minimum of 12 months) whose employer is not a Regional Organisation of Councils (ROC)

 

Standard Member – Concessional (for those working part-time)*

An individual who:
• is employed in local government either directly or on an employment contract (for a minimum of 12 months) whose employer is not a Regional Organisation of Councils (ROC), and
• is currently working less than 21 hours per week

 

Standard Member – Under 30#

An individual who:
• is employed in local government either directly or on an employment contract (for a minimum of 12 months) whose employer is not a Regional Organisation of Councils (ROC), and
• is under the age of 30 at the time of application

 

ROC Member

An individual who:
• is employed in local government either directly or on an employment contract (for a minimum of 12 months) whose employer is a Regional Organisation of Councils (ROC)

 

ROC Member – Concessional* 

An individual who:
• is employed in local government either directly or on an employment contract (for a minimum of 12 months) whose employer is a Regional Organisation of Councils (ROC), and
• is currently working less than 21 hours per week

 

ROC Member – Under 30#

An individual who:
• is employed in local government either directly or on an employment contract (for a minimum of 12 months) whose employer is a Regional Organisation of Councils (ROC), and
• is under the age of 30 at the time of application

 

Retired Member

An individual member (past or present) who:
• is over 58 years of age and no longer be employed or working in a paid capacity and;
• have worked in Local Government for more than 12 months during their life; and
• has formally applied in writing to the CEO of LGMA NSW to have their membership status changed from an Individual member to a retired member.

 

Life Member

Life membership cannot be applied for. This membership type is granted to an individual by the LGMA NSW Board of Directors with whom they deem deserving of this membership type. Life members have all the benefits of a fully paid member.

 

Membership Status - Fellow

As per the LGMA NSW Membership Policy, the criteria to be elected a Fellow by the Board (in its discretion) where the Individual Member:
(1) has been a financial Member for not less than 10 consecutive years at the date of election; or
(2) has made a significant contribution to the Local Government Sector; and
(3) has their nomination supported by at least 2 Individual Members (who need not be Fellows); or
(4) irrespective of (1), (2) or (3), the Board is of the opinion that a financial Member’s meritorious service to the local government sector is deserving of appointment as a Fellow.

Notes/Comments
*Individuals working part-time are entitled to receive a 25% reduction on the standard cost of membership provided that their General Manager or Human Resources/Payroll staff representative have completed the relevant section of the application form confirming that the applicant is working less than 21 hours per week.

#If a member at the time of renewal of membership (i.e. after the 1st July) is over the age of 30 years old, their membership type will have to be altered to the relevant membership type. E.g. A ‘Standard Member – Under 30’will be altered to a ‘Standard Member’.

Please note individual members must not use their membership status with LGMA NSW to promote any business or third party which they are employed by, associated with or have a pecuniary interest in.
