      PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS

      Through the looking glass

Jonathon Pain will give us a sneak peek through the looking glass as we consider the current state of the economy and what we can expect over the next 12 months. Jonathan believes that after five years of economic healing, the global economy is set for stronger growth in 2013, and beyond. The great majority of the world’s population of 7 billion people can look forward to better times ahead and Australia is particularly well placed to benefit, given its geology, geography and stability.

      Pieces of the Puzzle
The Division of Local Government is working on the Destination 2036 action plan, the Independent Local Government Review Panel is considering ways to strengthen the effectiveness of local government in NSW and the Local Government Act Review Taskforce have been charged with developing new, modern legislation that meets the current and future needs of the community, local government and the local government sector. So how does all this work together? These three presentations will provide an opportunity for discussion with key industry representatives who are tasked with various pieces of the puzzle across the sector, and will help us understand the key differences and alignments between the three forces.

      Playing Above the Line
Gallup Global Survey (2011) estimates that Australia suffers a massive $32bn annual loss in productivity through disengaged employees. And lack of engagement means lack of retention, costing you even more. Today’s successful organisation demands a healthy workplace environment, which for many of us means upskilling in right brained activities we may have called soft in the past. We will introduce 6 key areas for creating healthy organisational culture and leave you with practical ideas for quick wins in your workplace as well as foster ideas for longer term.

      DLG Code of Accounting
The Local Government Code of Accounting Practice and Financial Reporting prescribes the form of the financial statements and is intended to facilitate the practical and effective implementation of all Australian Accounting Standards. In this session the DLG will update delegates on any issues of relevance to the 2012/13 Financial Reports.
